A native of Garfield, Linda Bove is a deaf actress who performed on the PBS children’s series Sesame Street from 1971 to 2002.
Born to two deaf parents, Bove attended St. Joseph School for the Deaf in the Bronx, NY and then Marie Katzenbach School for the Deaf in Trenton, NJ, from which she graduated in 1963. She attended Gallaudet College, now Gallaudet University, studying library science. From there, she became interested in theatre.
In 1971, she debuted on Sesame Street and introduced millions of children to sign language and issues surrounding the deaf community. In 1975, she became a full-fledged regular cast member and continued on the show as Linda the librarian until 2002, making it the longest-running role for a deaf person in television history.
