YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – We’ve heard struggles from the deaf community regarding the pandemic and wearing masks. Now a Youngstown man is making videos about his challenges and sharing them online.

Justin Loncar is sharing his new normal with the world.

He has cochlear implants — a type of advanced hearing aid — but even with them, Justin relies on lip-reading to communicate. The pandemic has made it nearly impossible to do that.

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — This week’s Hometown Hero doesn’t save animals, or fill a food pantry, but he inspires people all over the world with his comedy.

Like many, he discovered the social media app TikTok and decided it was time to go for his dream to be a comedian. He’s always had a quick wit, naturally funny. He also happens to be deaf.

When COVID hit, it was time for Justin Loncar to meet the world!

Justin Loncar was born and raised in Boardman, Ohio. He was born hearing and at the age of 16 months, he lost his hearing. Genetic testing revealed he had Waardenburg Syndrome. He was raised by his deaf father and hearing mother, and was the only deaf child of all his siblings. He received his first cochlear implant at the age of 6 (in 1997) which forever changed his life.
